Lesson 3
The negative impacts of recycling. When it is not done correctly.
LESSON 3
The negative impacts of recycling.
Now that we learnt that Recycling is one of the BEST methods to save energy. we can now look at the negative impacts of recycling.
Contamination.
This is when people put items that are not recyclable. For example if a soda can with juice and greasy pizza box is thrown in the recycling the liquid and the oils soak and ruins the whole other items in the recycling.
Plastics.
Based on the video from the sorting plant, the machines use magnets and star screens to sort the paper. And that machine is really allergic to plastic bags. These items get wrapped on the spinning motors and can break or melt the machines.
Costs.
Recycling is very expensive. Collecting, transporting and cleaning uses a lot of energy and fuel. If the recycled material is not clear then, the energy and fuel which used to pick it up is wasted, releasing carbons and ruining the atmosphere.
