When in doubt.
If you aren't 100% sure an item is recyclable, throw it in the trash. It is much better to send one item to the landfill than to the machine and accidentally ruin a whole batch of recycling paper.
No Bags.
Keep your recyclables loose in the bin. Plastic bags are the reasons for the machine crash. They wrap around the spinning motors of the sorting machines and can cause the entire multimillion dollar plant to shut down.
5 Second Rinse.
Food waste is a major contaminant. Quickly rinse your yogurt cups, milk cartons, and soda bottles to ensure liquids don't soak into clean cardboard, making it useless for recycling.
